Although most of the people who visit this site probably know at least a little about me already, I'll give my rap sheet (unfortunately, it's not as juicy as one might suspect) for that occasional newbie.
I was born, raised and have now lived the majority of my adult life in Dillingham, Alaska. I haven't always been proud of the fact and at times have felt like I couldn't escape quickly enough, but as time goes on and I visit new places, meet new people, and see the shared similarities and the important differences of the human experience, I take comfort in the fact that I'm just a girl living in Dillingham, Alaska. Its minuses are basically those experienced everywhere, and its pluses are becoming increasingly more difficult to come by anywhere else.
I haven't always known what I've wanted to be or do with my life (I should probably rephrase that misstatement because it implies that I know now what I want to be and do), but since my first foray into photography at the relatively unknowing age of 14, I have enjoyed the power of photos. And after a good decade+ of picture-taking, it's the thing I enjoy the most when it comes to those words you use to describe yourself--I dig saying, "I'm a photographer."
Among a great number of other things, one of the most impressive characteristics of photography is its ability to turn an otherwise everyday and seemingly meaningless moment into something rife with meaning, emotion, and beauty. A photo can turn a second that would otherwise be lost in time and forgotten in just a few minutes--if that--into a significant experience that can change a person's thoughts and ideas. Portraits are the most obvious examples of what I'm trying to describe, but so are many of the landscape and travel photos I have posted on this site, so please take a look and feel free to let me know what you see and feel.
Thanks for the visit. Misty
